Yes, Windermere Florida does have a downtown. Downtown Windermere is located in the town of Windermere FL which lies between Lake Down and Lake Butler of the Butler Chain of lakes on the north side of Isleworth FL and about 10 miles west southwest of Downtown Orlando.
Most of the historic places are in Downtown Windermere. The town hall, library and the first school and other important reminders of the history are are easy to spot. Oddly enough the current post office is just a short drive to the east of the town of Windermere.
Also in the downtown area and just on main street are local favorites Allen's Creamery, Dixie Cream Cafe, Tim's Wine Market and a few places for dining. This is a small town with a small town feel and a great place to live.
Windermere is famous for its low crime rate, the chain of lakes, golf courses, luxury homes and wealthy people who choose to live in Windermere Town. However, there are many historic houses that have been thankfully maintained. Much of the community consists of these houses.
Once off of main street even the roads are dirt roads that are well maintained by the city. One of the historic house may not be most peoples idea of a dream home in Downtown Windermere but they certainly add to the small town feel local residents have come to love.
Central Florida as well as Windermere FL are famous for the weather and that is what brought the many golf courses to Orange County. Keenes Pointe and Isleworth are two prestigious neighborhoods both with a golf course. In fact both have a golf course that get frequented by famous players such as Tiger Woods. Bay Hill is another famous community with one of the finer golf courses in the state.
Downtown Windermere has an important feature belonging to the local chain of lakes. There is a canal passing under the north end of main street that connects several lakes including Wauseon Bay/ Lake Butler to Lake Down. The west sides of Windermere Florida are lined with lakefront homes.
Yes downtown Windermere Florida does experience some traffic. It is the main thoroughfare for many residents as the head toward Downtown Orlando or Walt Disney World. The traffic is worse in the morning and evenings. The two roundabouts have greatly improved the traffic flow since Windermere residents have adjusted to them.
One of the more charming attractions located in Downtown Windermere is the weekly farmers market. A great place to visit and sample some shopping, local restaurants and vendors. You can always have breakfast and just make your way leisurely around like most local residents do. Although not as large as the one in nearby Winter Garden we still like it more.
