Lake Down in Windermere FL is an amazing body of water. The lake is immediately east of Wauseon Bay and of course lake Butler. Lake Down measures just under 2 miles ling at it widest pointe. This lake is also home to the one public and free boat ramp which is shown above.
Lake Down has one of the two publicly accessible boat ramps. The ramp in RD Keene Park is by far superior. The RD Keene Park Ramp does cost $5 but is well worth it. Who should use the Lake Down Ramp? Basically those who are experienced with launching a boat and have on 16 feet long or less.
There is no parking, the traffic on this road can be a real hassle when maneuvering your trailer for launch or recovery. Lake Down does have other places to launch but they are private. Windermere Downs on the northeast shore of the lake has a launch but it is gated.
The Lake itself is surprisingly clear and those reptiles are rarely an issue. People boat, ski and fish here all of the time. I would not hesitate to swim here or allow my grandchildren to.
Lake Down has a surface area of 885 acres or about 1.4 square miles. The mean depth is around 20 feet which is slightly more than Lake Butler. No matter as there are plenty of shallow areas. Not to mention beautiful homes to admire and you cruise the shores of Lake Down in Windermere FL.
