The history of Isleworth is interesting and surprising. Isleworth history like Windermere has its’ beginnings in the citrus industry. The name given to this amazing community was derived from” the isle of worth.” It was so named by brothers Joshua and Sydney Chase. Who knows who should be given credit for the final evolution for the name but it is easier to say.
Isle of worth was originally chosen because in Florida occasionally we do have cold snaps and yes even freezing temperatures. Because water has a higher heat capacity than air and possibly spring fed lakes are just naturally more resistant the area of Isleworth faired better during cold snaps. The brothers Chase noticed and while others sold, they purchased.
As with all things the area of Windermere and Isleworth have adapted. Arnold Palmer one of golfs visionaries had his eye on Florida. Knowing the area of Windermere was beautiful and the weather was incredible he purchased the land now known as Isleworth in 1984. Like other famous golf icons his sights were set on building another part of his legacy in the form of an amazing golf course. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay were the original designers of the course. Steve Smyers can along not long after and updated the course to the incredible standard it has set. The Florida State Golf Association has consistently placed Isleworth on the short list of longest and toughest courses in FL.
By 1993 the Tavistock Group had noticed and soon after purchased both the course and surrounding lands. Having the resources to do so Tavistock then applied the finishing touches in the form of the mansions and luxury homes which fill this community.
